Typescript of a interview conducted by Ben Bahlmann on 29 Oct. 1999 in Provo, Utah. Bahlmann retained the audiocassettes from which the typescript was made. Carter talks about his early life and the death of his parents. He also tells about his military experiences. He served as a gunner for B-24 bombers and was deployed in North Africa. He was on 61 combat missions over southern Europe, was shot down in the Mediterranean Sea on one occasion, and observed the operations of the black market in Italy during the war.
